Construction Engineering and Management - BSc (Hons)

The management of construction projects on site is a vital part of the construction process however, the success of the project on site is influenced by decisions taken at project initiation - planning, pricing, procurement and contract management are vital. The Construction Engineering and Management course includes core subjects such as construction technology, construction law, economics and construction management. Key themes such as procurement, innovation, BIM, sustainability and health and safety are embedded within specific modules. The focus of the programme in years 1 and 2 is generally on technical areas such as science, engineering and technology with a gradual shift towards construction management in later years. In addition to the core subjects and themes listed above there are a number of overarching themes embodied within the programme specification, including a commitment to satisfy the learning and development of students, to equip students with the knowledge, professional skills and competencies required to succeed in a career in construction. The course produces graduates with the ability to adapt to technological change and contribute significantly in a highly competitive industry.

Construction management is one of a family of disciplines concerned with the Built Environment.

A career in this sector often encompasses a wide range of roles. Options include Construction Manager, Site engineer, Facilities Manager, Building Control Surveyor and Contract Manager.

Successful graduates can continue their study on the Construction Business and Leadership Masters programme or specialise on the MSc in Fire Safety Engineering both taught on the Jordanstown campus.

Work placement / study abroad
Supervised work placement takes place in year 3 and must be completed by all students except those entering the programme in year two via the Foundation Degree.

High quality placements are offered by local and international construction companies. These companies work with us to offer an exciting and relevant work based learning experience.

Placement allows you to develop your technical knowledge and practical experience in a supported environment and is seen as a vital benefit by graduate employers.

PSW Opportunity

  • 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
  • 3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Each programme will have slightly different requirements, both in terms of overall points and certain subjects, so please check the relevant subject in the undergraduate on-line prospectus.

Normally Ulster University welcomes applications from students with:

All Indian Standard XII (Central Boards or a State Board) with an overall average of 60% to include 50% or above in 5 subjects Where a course has subject-specific requirements 60% will be required in each of these subjects.

OR

3 year Diploma in an engineering or technology subject from a State Board of Technical Education with overall 60% (Accredited by ACITE)

Usually the minimum English language entry requirement is IELTS (academic) of 6.0 (with no band score of less than 5.5).

Some of our courses ask for a higher score.

If you do not meet the English language requirement we will give you a conditional offer subject to you meeting the requirement before the commencement of the course.
