It's a discipline that draws on knowledge of product development, technical design, manufacturing techniques and rapid prototyping to bring new innovations to market. It also focuses on improving existing products and the processes used for making them.

Design engineering has helped to transform the environment, create incredible super-structures on land and sea, and even helped people travel into the solar system.
This course addresses the issues associated with a rapidly changing market and the demands for better, cheaper and personalised products, developed within the shortest possible time. It will provide thorough training in design theories and process models, design methods, design techniques, computer supported product modelling, analysis, evaluation and physical rapid prototyping of a design solution. In addition to the enterprise skills necessary to launch brand new products to market.
The Advanced Product Development stream is designed for those who wish to enhance their technical knowledge and practical design skills through the application of state-of-the-art manufacture to practical design settings through the specialisation in advanced materials and production technology, product design techniques and engineering risk management.

PSW Opportunity
2 Years PSW is applicable after the course completing (Bachelors level or above).
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
For entry to Strathclyde postgraduate programmes, we'd look for a first-class undergraduate degree (approx 60%) from a recognised Indian institution.
Although 60% is a general entry requirement we understand that the marking system in some of the states and national universities make it harder to achieve 60%, therefore we will accept 55% from University of Mumbai, University of Calcutta, University of Delhi etc.
Graduates from the IITs and IIMs will also be considered with marks in the region of 55%. If you wish to apply for a research degree you'd normally have to have a Masters degree and some experience of research work.
