Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Statistics
The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree has a status higher than that of other Master's degrees but lower than that of the Ph.D. degree. It is a research degree designed to recognize an original contribution to knowledge and the comments on the originality and significance of the Ph.D. thesis apply here too. However, it is intended that an MPhil thesis be the product of only one year of full-time research (though in practice candidates invariably take longer) and the original contribution to knowledge will, therefore, be less than would be expected in a Ph.D. thesis.
Good Statistics graduates who can analyze the growing amount of data available to businesses and turn it into meaningful information are in high demand.
Statistical analysis is used to make informed decisions in most areas of human endeavors, such as agriculture, industry and commerce, law, medicine, forestry, psychology, insurance, and economics. The current shortage of Statistics graduates and Statistical Analysts has opened up a vast array of opportunities for graduates. Working as a Statistician often involves working with people from other areas, such as those listed above. You will often be acting as a ‘trouble-shooter.’
