Diploma In Pharmacy
Pharmacy is the science and technique of preparing, dispensing and proper utilization of medicines. It is a health profession that links health sciences with chemical sciences and aims to ensure the safe and effective use of pharmaceutical drugs. The scope of pharmacy practice includes more traditional roles such as compounding and dispensing medications, and it also includes more modern services related to health care, including clinical services, reviewing medications for safety and efficacy, and providing drug information.
Students who graduate with diploma in pharmacy are called pharmacist assistants. Pharmacy assistants are skilled and essential members of the pharmacy team, who prepare, dispense and supply a wide range and variety of medicines to patients. They work under the supervision of registered pharmacists. Some of the core responsibilities of a pharmacist assistant are receiving and filling prescriptions, taking and updating patient information, dispensing, inventory control of drugs in the hospital or retail setting, ordering of drugs, compounding, patient counseling and working as a team with other health care providers. They are also sometimes involved in the preparation of intravenous admixtures, parenteral nutrition and cytotoxic drug reconstitutions.
Employment of pharmacy assistants is projected to grow, faster than the average for all occupations. Increased demand for prescription medications will lead to more demand for pharmaceutical services.
