Why study MA Migration & Mobility at Goldsmiths?
Grounded in the distinctive theories and practices of anthropology, this programme helps advance your knowledge and understanding of, and critical engagement with, contemporary processes of migration. You'll gain the critical and conceptual tools to think in new and creative ways about the contemporary movement of people, things, and ideas around the globe. Based in the Department of Anthropology, the degree also draws on interdisciplinary expertise in the Departments of Sociology and Media and Communications, through the Migration Research Network. You'll study in an academic community that is engaged with the key social and political issues shaping people's im/mobilities around the globe.
Our innovative work on the topic of migration includes the use of film to intervene in the current “migrant crises” in Europe, ethnographic studies of lifestyle migration among the middle classes, and the use of smartphones to enable migrants to document the forms of surveillance that they encounter.
Our research expertise is integral to teaching on the programme, throughout both the compulsory and specialist optional modules. This research-led approach ensures that you acquire a diverse set of skills, enabling you to investigate migration processes across academic, public policy and activist contexts.
