Master of Business Administration (MBA)

This course is designed for both aspiring managers and people currently employed in business or management.

The Holmes MBA has the clear objective of teaching you how to think like a business person and how to plan using advanced strategic thinking. The Holmes MBA will enable you to critically examine problems and opportunities. By providing analytical frameworks such as risk assessments, cost-benefit analyses and strategic plans you will be able to apply these to any problem or opportunity you encounter. The core curriculum develops your understanding and ability to interpret financial statements and marketing plans, analyse markets, read audit reports and develop business plans.

Knowing how to read financial statements is important during the evaluation of a vendor's financial standing. Knowing how to interpret marketing plans and conduct a market analyse will help you identify a vendor's strengths and overall strategies.

Because the Holmes MBA is a master's-level academic program, you will produce comprehensive assessments for each subject.

The ability to research business business topics and analyse current business opportunities will quickly give a competitive edge in your workplace.

The Holmes MBA will allow you to develop comprehensive understandings of your organisation's operating environment. From this knowledge you will be able to help your organisation move forward and become a more valuable asset in the organisation. The overall importance of leadership is an integral principle in the Holmes MBA. The degree will provide the knowledge and skills to lead an organisation using advanced technology, innovative practices and enterprise management systems which work.

Course Structure and Content
The Holmes MBA comprises 12 subjects, taken over three study periods.

Students may elect to exit the MBA after two study periods having qualified for the Graduate Diploma in Business award, which consists of 8 subjects. Seven core subjects must be completed plus one elective subject chosen from anywhere in the MBA.

There are eight core subjects in the MBA, as set out in the brochure. All students must complete these core subjects and then may choose to either complete their MBA with general electives in Business and Management, or complete a specialisation. The specialisations available in the Holmes MBA are concentrated in the following fields:

Campus Information

Melbourne Campus

Holmes Melbourne is centrally located opposite Parliament House. Train, tram and bus routes are at our front door. The campus is surrounded by cafes, banking facilities, shops, parks and hotels. It is located in the heart of what is consistently voted one of the most liveable cities in the world: Melbourne Australia. The campus has numerous floors of tutorial and classrooms, auditorium, computing labs, a resource centre and large common and recreational areas and is the head office of the Holmes Group.

Sydney Campus

Sydney - famous for its wonderful harbour, the Opera House and the Harbor Bridge. One of the most beautiful and exciting great cities of the world. It is a cosmopolitan metropolis where art, science, commerce and sport all flourish. Students can enjoy the outdoor life, walks and pristine beaches in easy reach of the city centre.

Brisbane Campus

Holmes Brisbane is located in the central CBD, only minutes from buses, trains and ferries. The college has recently relocated to the central CBD close to the city mall and opposite the new and extensive Winter Garden food court. A medium sized school, Holmes Brisbane like all Holmes campuses is complete with classrooms, resource centre, lecture and tutorial rooms, and excellent computing facilities.

Gold Coast Campus

The Gold Coast, Queensland, is five minutes from paradise and is situated one and a half hours south of Brisbane. The city is fast and pulsating with stunning beaches, sun, action, cafes and restaurants. The Gold Coast experiences life to the fullest. Studying in cosmopolitan Surfers Paridise comes as near to learning in heaven as you can get, with only metres to the beach and a host of Gold Coast activities.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

To satisfy entry into the coursework MBA course, MPA course and/or the nested Graduate Diploma course, international students typically must meet one of the following entry requirements and/or entry pathways:

  • Completion of a Bachelors’ degree from a recognized tertiary institution;
  • Completion of a Graduate Diploma from a recognized tertiary institution;
  • Having reached a standard deemed by the Dean of Studies to be the equivalent of the above;
  • Candidates who hold other postgraduate awards and/or award or non-award professional qualifications in business education or professional and continuing education may apply for admission based on the current HI Policy for the Recognition of Prior Learning or HI Policy for Credit Transfer.

International students must also meet one of the English language requirements below

  • IELTS 6.5 (with no less than 6.0 in any band) or the equivalent;
  • Studied successfully for a minimum of two years in an undergraduate course that was delivered and assessed in English.
