Computer Science - Focus on Cyber Security, Master of Science

Industry 4.0, smart technologies and the huge range of online communication platforms are changing the way we live, work and communicate with each other. Always online, we rely on databases, automate production processes and cannot imagine a life without smart systems. However, these new technologies and changes are also accompanied with huge risks. Networks, infrastructures, systems and data are under constant attack by hackers, cyber criminals, malware and viruses.

Thus information security specialists who know how to successfully defend network attacks, protect sensitive data and analyse and manage these risks are in high demand. Apart from IT expertise, they need to have an extended knowledge about business processes and infrastructures and need to be able to keep operations running, even under the steady threat of cyber attacks. Our new Master of Science programme prepares students for these often difficult and unprecedented tasks by giving them a thorough education in Information Security and Computer Science. Modules in Information Security Management, Security Technologies and IT Operations Management (DevOps) foster the information security expertise of our Master students. In addition, they also learn about current topics such as Big Data Analytics, Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies.

In order to be prepared to work in different business environments, the Cyber Security students also have modules in Commercial Law and IT Service Management and know how to perform IT audits as well as penetration tests. Upon graduation, the Computer Science students have received a well-rounded information security education with plenty of hands-on experience in projects that will not only help them become the cyber security experts of tomorrow but also enables them to work in a range of companies, institutions and start-ups.
