Environmental Geography (BSc Hons)

Our Environmental Geography degree focuses on the natural environment and our interactions with it, through topics such as geomorphology, biogeography, sustainability and global environmental challenges, and nature conservation policy and practice. Fieldwork and ‘real world’ learning are at its core. We make the most of York and its surrounding region, taking you to places such as the North York Moors or and the Yorkshire Coast, and bringing in guest speakers from local environmental organisations.

Studying the effect humans are having on the planet is more relevant and urgent now than it has ever been. Environmental Geography focuses on the natural world and our relationship with it. If you are passionate about facing major environmental issues and communicating their importance to others, then this is the degree for you. This programme has been accredited by the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) and approaches these issues from both human and physical geographical perspectives, considering the environment itself along with the people and populations who interact with it. Topics you will explore include ecosystems, biogeography, environmental hazards, nature conservation, sustainability and the global environmental challenges we are facing today. Tackling these issues head-on will challenge you to think about your own environmental values and your relationship with the natural world.
