Biomedical Science (BSc Hons) - (with placement)

Biomedical Science is the study of human disease, looking at the causes of disease and the effect on the normal structure and functions of the human body. Biomedical scientists perform key roles in the NHS and private healthcare services, using scientific knowledge and laboratory skills to diagnose patients.

All students who register for the 3 year Biomedical Science degree programme will have the opportunity to transfer to the award title of Biomedical Science (with placement) during Year 2 of study. Both our 3 year and 4 year programmes are accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS), the professional body for Biomedical Scientists. If you transfer to the Biomedical Science (with placement) programme and undertake an NHS placement, you can train to become a Biomedical Scientist. Following successful completion of your IBMS portfolio during the NHS placement and completion of your degree, you will be issued with a Certificate of Competence and may register as a Biomedical Scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
