B.A (Hons) - Garment Technology

Our BA (Hons) Garment Technology degree course nurtures and encourages you to develop a professional and enquiring attitude within technical aspects of clothing production, and an ability to become confident and self-motivated in your chosen practice.

This course has excellent links to international fashion brands, including Burberry, Karen Millen and George at Asda.

The staff team has industry experience within the computer-aided design (CAD), pattern cutting, fashion history, and design, and have worked alongside many internationally-recognized brands. You will learn to work with the Gerber pattern cutting and design system, widely used in the industry alongside supportive staff who are well placed to inspire and shape your future careers. 

What's covered in the course?
The course equips you with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attributes to succeed in a wide range of careers in the fashion industry.

In your first year introduction to a number of fashion, topics help you to develop a good foundation of fashion knowledge and skills in both design and technical areas.

Your second year helps to build advanced technical skills and knowledge and strengthens your personal and professional development in relation to your own career goals. Opportunities to take part in the international Erasmus exchange program exist during this year.

You will have the chance to follow our four-year sandwich option, which provides the opportunity for a one-year internship in industry.

Your final year introduces you to advanced pattern cutting, fittings, grading and sizing, production planning, costing, testing and technical packs. Your work will be closely linked to the industry to produce garments, following manufacturing and production processes that relate to today’s fast-paced fashion industry, with the opportunity to specialize in the area that reflects your own personal interest. 

The course blends individual creativity, technical skills, and commercial realism, enabling you to apply your skills and knowledge of the professional design process from concept to product. 

BA (Hons) Garment Technology, BA (Hons) Fashion Design and BA (Hons) Costume Design and Practice have a shared first year of study.

City Centre Campus

Our state-of-the-art resources include a gallery, noise and vibration cells, video production laboratory, a robotic laboratory, a huge isolation booth with sonic sound quality big enough to record drum kits, fantastic recording facilities, and a blue screen studio for chromakey work for film and music.

PSW Opportunity

  • 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
  • 3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Undergraduate courses

The majority of our programmes require the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (Standard XII) - minimum average of 55% depending on exam board, however some courses may require a higher grade.

Faculty of Art, Design and Media:

Most undergraduate courses in the Art and Design schools require a good portfolio of artwork.
Requires the 12th Standard average of 60% overall.  Some courses require Maths with a minimum of 65% from Standard 10 on the Central Board or the CICSE Board, otherwise student require 60% from Standard 12

Faculty of Business, Law and Social Sciences (BLSS):

Requires the 12th Standard average of 60% with a minimum of 60% in Maths. We also accept Maths at Standard 10 with 65% from Central Board and CICSE Board.

Faculty of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment (CEBE):

Mathematics is required at the 10th Standard minimum of 65% from Central Board and CICSE Board.
BEng Telecommunication and Networks, Mathematics is required at 12th Standard minimum 65%
All engineering courses require the 12th Standard minimum of 65% with 65% in Maths, Physics and Chemistry
