Bachelor of Social Work / Bachelor of Criminology and Justice

Learn about the social causes and consequences of crime and disadvantage in this double degree. You’ll be taught about how sociological influences can impact offending and gain a deep understanding of Australia’s criminal justice system, including areas of law enforcement, crime policy, the court system and custodial and community corrections.

In this program you will:

  • Learn about social inequality and how to make a difference in the legal system
  • Complete two field placements where you’ll learn practical skills
  • Research crime-related issues and develop problem solving skills
  • Have the opportunity to complete a professional placement in your final year
  • Choose from specialist courses in criminal profiling and intelligence, youth justice and restorative justice, homicide, forensic science and more
Accreditation

The social work component of the program is fully accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers, and prepares professionals to work with individuals, families, groups and communities.

PSW Opportunity

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

FOR INDIA

  • All India Senior School Certificate – awarded by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) with a minimum grade average of 60% or better in the best 4 academic subjects in final year and and overall First Division results;  or
  • Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) with a minimum grade average of 60% or better in the best 4 academic subjects in final year and overall First Division results;  or
  • State board exams, other than Punjab State Education Board (PSEB) and Haryana State Education Board (HSEB), with a minimum grade average of 65% average across the 4 best academic subjects in the final year and overall First Division results;  or
  • Punjab State Education Board (PSEB) and Haryana State Education Board (HSEB) exams, with a minimum grade average of 70% average across the 4 best academic subjects in the final year and overall First Division results; and
  • All applicants must have at least 50% in the theory component (where applicable) of any subject.

FOR BANGLADESH

  • Higher Secondary Certificate, Intermediate Certificate - Minimum GPA of 3.50 out of a 5.00 point scale.

FOR NEPAL

  • Nepalese Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) - Aggregate Division I and over 65% or GPA of 2.9 in final year, or
  • Nepalese Proficiency Certificate or Intermediate Certificate (issued by a NOOSR recognised Nepalese University or the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT))  - Division I (over 70%).

FOR BHUTAN

  • Bhutan Higher Secondary Certificate - Minimum 80% in the best 4 academic subjects (excluding Languages).

FOR SRI LANKA

  • Sri Lankan General Certificate of Education ('Advanced' Level) - Aggregate score of 3 over the best three academic A Level subjects where A=4, B=3, C=2, S=1
