BA in French Studies (3yrs)

French Studies provides a diverse curriculum encompassing study in language, linguistics, and literature. The French Studies program is an integral part of the Modern Languages & Literatures Department. It encompasses study in language, linguistics, literature, and civilization as well as overlapping fields of knowledge such as philosophy, history, and aesthetics. We offer language courses in areas such as writing, translation and stylistics, linguistics courses in areas such as phonetics, morphology, syntax, lexicology and dialectology, and literature courses examining the major movements, periods and genres in the literatures of France and Canada. All courses encourage students to develop clarity and diversity of thought, intellectual rigour, and method. This program leads to a Bachelor of Arts degree (3-year, 4-year, or Honours) with a Major in French Studies. Students taking an undergraduate degree in another Major may choose to add a Minor in French Studies as a secondary area of interest. The Department also participates in the Interdepartmental Minor in Comparative Literature.
