Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for admission to the Master of Speech Pathology, a student must have:
- completed an undergraduate degree (not in speech pathology) with a minimum GPA of 5.0 using a 7-point scale (studies must have been completed within ten years prior to the commencement of the trimester to which a student is applying and whilst there are no prerequisite study areas for admission, desirable areas include: Psychology; Health Science; Public Health; Medical Science; Human Services; Education; Linguistics) and
- satisfactory performance in an interview with a Speech Pathology academic staff member.
Admission will not normally be granted for an undergraduate degree that has been completed more than ten years prior to the time of application for admission. If studies were completed more than ten years prior to the time of application, applicants must have:
- completed an undergraduate degree (not in speech pathology)* and
- completed a minimum of 40 credit points (equivalent to Bachelor degree level or above) at a higher education institution within ten years of applying for admission with a GPA of at least 5.0 and
- satisfactory performance in an interview with a Speech Pathology academic staff member.
?OR - completed an undergraduate degree (not in speech pathology)* with a GPA of at least 5.0 and
- completed a minimum of three years full-time equivalent professional experience within the five years prior to the commencement of the trimester to which a student is applying (examples of relevant experience include Health, Education, Psychology, Disability Services, Human Services, Social Work) and can demonstrate the ability to undertake postgraduate study by providing:
- a curriculum vitae and
- a summary of relevant skills applicable to speech pathology (maximum two pages) and
- an employer's reference and
- satisfactory performance in an interview with a Speech Pathology academic staff member.
* Whilst there are no prerequisite study areas for admission, desirable areas include: Psychology; Health Science; Public Health; Medical Science; Human Services; Education; Linguistics.
As the number of applicants may exceed the places available, selection for admission is competitive and will be based upon (1) academic merit and (2) interview.
