Asian Studies is an area studies program that offers instruction in the languages, histories and cultures of China, India, Korea and Japan. Asian specialists in other departments such as Anthropology, History, Sociology, and Religion offer Asia-related courses which can be used to obtain a minor or major in Asian Studies.

What is unique about this program at the U of M?
Asian Studies at the University of Manitoba offers more courses in Asian culture and language than any other university in Manitoba because of linkages with other departments students may combine studies in a wide range of disciplines with specialized Asian language and culture studies. Faculty are very active in research on the ground in Asia, including studies of the modern literature, traditional religious practice, and the culture of indigenous peoples in Asia. Course offerings in cultural studies include traditional as well as popular culture. There are a number of active student exchange programs involving universities in Japan, Korea, and China.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

An equivalent minimum average of 85% over the following senior level courses, with no less than 60% in each course:
