MSc Cyber AI
MSc Cyber AI sits at the meeting point of two of the fastest-moving fields in technology: artificial intelligence and cyber security. It is built for graduates who want to work on both sides of that intersection: using AI to defend systems and securing AI systems themselves.
The programme covers machine learning, natural language processing, Cyber AI, agentic AI, network security and monitoring, and penetration testing and ethical hacking, followed by a substantial industry-linked research project. Students learn to design, implement and evaluate intelligent cyber defence solutions; to analyse adversarial AI techniques and defend against them; and to assess the ethical, legal and regulatory dimensions of deploying AI in security-critical settings.
Industry Links
Belfast is a serious cyber security location in its own right, with a dense cluster of security operations, fintech and regulated-industry employers, and Queen's sits at the centre of that ecosystem through Momentum One Zero, the University's business-led innovation centre for cyber security, AI and wireless.
The programme has written industry backing from BNY, the world's largest global custodian ($62.6tn under custody), and from local SMEs like Pytilia Limited and ARQIT, who are specialising in AI in regulated industries and a participant in Queen's Cyber-AI Hub.

Sectors and employers: financial services and fintech, managed security service providers and consultancies, technology and software companies, telecommunications, critical national infrastructure, government and defence, healthcare, and technology SMEs. Northern Ireland has a dense concentration of security operations and regulated-industry employers, and Queen's sits at the centre of that cluster.
Are these roles growing? Yes. UK job postings relating to AI qualifications rose 33% between 2013 and 2024, and Lightcast data indicates an undersupply of qualifiers against available roles. Projections to 2034 show growth across the relevant occupation groups, including Cyber Security Professionals (+3.8%), Information Technology Professionals n.e.c. (+4.1%), IT Business Analysts, Architects and Systems Designers (+4.1%) and Programmers and Software Development Professionals (+4.5%). Regionally, Northern Ireland is targeting a cyber security workforce of 5,000 professionals by 2030, with AI central to that plan.
