Master of Public Health

The Master of Public Health (MPH) is a professionally focused postgraduate qualification that equips you with the knowledge and practical skills to improve population health and address public health challenges.

With a strong applied component—either through a work-integrated practicum or a research-based project—you will be work-ready and able to critically apply your skills to real-world public health issues in Aotearoa New Zealand and globally.

This qualification is grounded in equity, community engagement, and culturally responsive practice. It integrates Te Tiriti o Waitangi across its curriculum and prepares you to contribute meaningfully to the public health workforce.

Job Opportunity Potential

Graduates of the Master of Public Health will be equipped for a wide range of roles in Aotearoa New Zealand and globally, including in health promotion, environmental health, policy analysis, epidemiology, advocacy.

You may work in government (Ministry of Health, Te Whatu Ora, PHOs), Universities and Research Institutes, NGOs, and humanitarian organizations. 

PSW Opportunity

  • During study, all students on a student visa can work up to 20 hours per week during semester and full time during vacations.
  • After completing Level 7 Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Qualification, a student will get a three years open post-study work visa.
  • After completing Level 8 Post Graduate courses of 1 year, students get 1 year PSW.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

  • To apply to the Master of Public Health, you need to have a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in an area relevant to public health eg, health sciences, psychology, data science, geography, politics, sociology, etc. You will also need to have at least a B Grade Average in your 300-level courses.
