Diploma in Digital Manufacturing

The Digital Manufacturing Diploma prepares learners to work and practice using digital-based and computer numerical controlled equipment, methods, techniques, and materials as either an entry-level generalist or as a specialist within a previously acquired discipline. Digital manufacturing has pervaded every discipline and opened up possibilities for new products, design choices, and materials in ways that are accessible to individuals and small enterprises as never before.

The program prepares learners to design, build, and operate digital hardware/software and apply digital approaches to traditional and unrelated disciplines. Although the program is directly applicable to those with a technical background, it is also intended to be appropriate to those from non-technical disciplines who wish to apply digital manufacturing methods to the creative, scientific, professional services disciplines as well as those where digital methods are yet to be considered.

Students will be exposed to a wide array of digital equipment and manufacturing, using 3D modeling in concert with digital or computer numerical controlled machinery, techniques, and materials such as 3D printers, laser cutters, plasma cutters, automated looms and embroidery machines, pastry and culinary equipment and more. The last semester is entirely devoted to a learner-defined major design and implementation project using problem-based pedagogy.
