Study a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery full-time at our Townsville or Cairns campuses, where you’ll find opportunities to expand your professional network through JCU’s connections with local hospitals, health services and providers.

In your first year, you will be introduced to integrated medical studies. Examine normal functions of the human body from a molecular and cellular level and consider how systems and society can influence health.

In your second year, you will explore human anatomy, physiology and common pathophysiologies. Develop associated clinical skills while focusing on challenges common to rural, remote and tropical contexts.

In your third year, you will extend your knowledge of clinical healthcare through further study of both physiological and social impacts on health. Consider specifically areas including immunology and preventive medicine In your fourth year, you will focus on honing your clinical pathology knowledge, working specifically to examine and collect information from patients. Build expertise in interpreting this data to draw conclusions and plan for patient care.

In your fifth year, you will expand upon your previous studies as you integrate your medical knowledge with the awareness, attitudes and skills required to perform in clinical healthcare environments. Complete six rotations in clinical healthcare settings, each lasting six weeks.

Honours

The Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (Honours) degree is available for high-achieving students. It consists of extra study and the development of a personal research project and thesis.

An Honours degree is usually essential for entry to research higher degrees.

JCU Cairns houses teaching and research facilities, the JCU library, cafés, bars, fitness and sporting facilities and a wealth of student clubs and societies.

Townsville

The campus is located in the Townsville Tropical Intelligence and Health Precinct (TropiQ) in the suburb of Douglas. JCU Townsville is set in a 386-hectare natural bush and parkland setting, 13 kilometres (8 miles) from the Townsville CBD.

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

FOR INDIA

  • All India Senior Secondary Certificate Exam (AISSCE) / Council for the Indian School Certificate Exam (CISCE) with 60 - 70%

You must have successfully completed 6 months of full-time study at a recognised higher education institution and received a minimum cumulative GPA of 4.9 out of 7.0, or minimum average results of approximately 65-70%.

You may be eligible to apply directly after high school and must provide your High School Certificate (or equivalent). These applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
