PSW Opportunity

Post-Study Work visa or permit, allowing international students on F-1 visas to work in the US after completing their studies, typically through Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Eligibility:
To be eligible for OPT, students must have been enrolled full-time in a US educational institution for at least one academic year and be seeking work related to their major.

Duration:
Students can apply for up to 12 months of OPT, either before they finish their studies (pre-completion) or after graduation (post-completion).

STEM OPT:
Students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields can apply for an extended OPT period of up to 24 months.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

  • Official transcript from each university you’ve attended (mailed or e-mailed directly to AUM by each institution) and official English translation(s) if your transcript is not in English.
  • Proof of English proficiency (unless you are exempt). You can take the TOEFL IBT (minimum 61 points), the IELTS (minimum 5.5 points), PTE (minimum 44), Duolingo (minimum 100), or the TOEFL PBT (minimum 500 points). More information about English proficiency test requirements.
  • Satisfactory results on one of the graduate entrance examinations. The College of Business requires you to have taken the General Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). The Colleges of Education, Public Policy & Justice, and Arts & Sciences require either the general section of the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT).  All scores must be sent directly from the testing agency.
