Master of Public Health One-Year Program
If you are interested in improving public health, JWU’s One-Year Master of Public Health (MPH) program is an accelerated pathway to transforming your passion into a rewarding career. This full-time, year-round program trains you to solve 21st-century public health problems.
In this one-year program, students take five courses per semester. Starting in the first course, students learn to solve real-world public health problems and develop programming. Courses are specifically designed to prepare students for an independent applied practicum experience and to train students to make immediate impacts on the public’s health after graduation.
Courses such as Improving Community Health and the Public Health Capstone prepare students to use what they’ve learned in real-life situations by having them work with community partners. You’ll gain the skills needed to make a positive impact on public health right after graduation.
Students in JWU’s Master of Public Health One-Year program learn about the full spectrum of public health knowledge, including social determinants of health, policy, core principles of epidemiology, biostatistics, and research.
Prior experience in public health or healthcare is not required. Public health integrates a diverse range of skills from multiple disciplines, and the MPH One-Year degree invites applicants from all backgrounds. Whether your undergraduate studies were in business, biology, culinary, or any other field, you can carve out a future in public health at JWU.

My Assessment: Overall Job Opportunity Potential
- JWU offers very good job opportunity potential, especially for students who make the most of the experiential learning, internships, and networking offerings.
- If you maximize what the university offers (internships, campus recruiting, alumni network), you have a high chance of finding a good job soon after graduation.
- For international students or those planning to work outside the U.S., you’ll need to check whether your field is in demand locally, whether your qualification is recognized, and whether visa/work permit rules allow you to stay and work.
