Art, Preparation for Teaching, BA + Single Subject Credential in Art + Teaching, MAT

This Spartan Accelerated Graduate Education (SAGE) Scholars Program allows qualified students in Art, Studio Practice Concentration (Preparation for Teaching), BA to simultaneously complete the requirements for the Baccalaureate, Single Subject Credential - Art and Teaching, MAT degrees (with optional Spanish bilingual authorization). Students can progress from undergraduate to graduate status seamlessly, with a simplified application process and no application fee. They complete all degrees in less time as compared to completing them separately. The program provides a broad foundation in contemporary art practice and permits some specialization in a favorite art medium. It also specializes in courses on teaching art to young people. Graduates most often work in middle and high school classrooms.

To add a Spanish Bilingual Authorization to this pathway, students simultaneously apply to the Critical Bilingual Authorization program (CBAP). This requires an additional personal essay in their SAGE Scholars application and an interview in Spanish. CBAP students take one credential course in Spanish (EDTE 208B instead of EDTE 208) and take specified sections of several other credential courses. They do their student teaching in bilingual classrooms and are required to register for 2 seminars of EDTE 297B - Advanced Issues in Bilingual Education (2 units) during their student teaching semesters, for an additional 4 units.
