M.S. Special Education
The Master of Science in Special Education Program at Southwest Minnesota State University offers programming for initial teaching license, as well as options for Tier 3 or 4 teachers seeking to add Special Education. Candidates will complete an action research project to enhance their learning and develop their research skills.
This degree is a minimum of 34 graduate credits. Up to 9 transfer credits are allowed. Total credits may be increased if seeking licensure in conjunction with the master's degree in Special Education. A master's degree alone does not guarantee licensing. The Master of Science; Special Education program has emphasis areas in:
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Academic Behavioral Strategist (ABS)
Developmental Disabilities (DD/DCD)
Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE)
Emotional Behavioral Disabilities (EBD)
Learning Disabilities (LD/SLD)
All Special Education candidates take a Special Education Core (18-19 cr.) or the Alternative Core (18 cr.) and the Specialty Courses in at least one area (10-15 cr.) which leads to Special Education licensure. Candidates are welcome to pursue more than one licensure area. Research Component Courses (8 cr.) are required to complete the 34 credits required for the M.S. in Special Education. Candidates can select certificate or licensure options. A transcript review will be completed for licensure candidates to ensure completion of all licensing requirements for the state of Minnesota.

PSW Opportunity
Post-Study Work visa or permit, allowing international students on F-1 visas to work in the US after completing their studies, typically through Optional Practical Training (OPT).
Eligibility:
To be eligible for OPT, students must have been enrolled full-time in a US educational institution for at least one academic year and be seeking work related to their major.
Duration:
Students can apply for up to 12 months of OPT, either before they finish their studies (pre-completion) or after graduation (post-completion).
STEM OPT:
Students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields can apply for an extended OPT period of up to 24 months.

Master of Business Administration requires a bachelor's degree with a 3.0 GPA or a GMAT score of 450 or higher.
M.S. in Education requires a bachelor's degree with a 3.0 GPA.
M.S. in Special Education requires a bachelor's degree with a 3.0 GPA.
M.S. in Physical Education requires a bachelor's degree with a 2.5 GPA.
M.S. in Cybersecurity requires a bachelor's degree with a 2.75 GPA.
M.S. in Nursing, Nurse Educator requires a bachelor's degree with a 3.0 GPA.
Educational Administration & Leadership requires a master's degree with a 3.0 GPA.
Licensure & Certificates require a bachelor's degree with a 3.0 GPA.
