Bachelor's-MA in Teaching

At Sacred Heart University, we offer students pursuing a professional career in teaching the opportunity to earn their bachelor's and master's degrees and become eligible for their initial teaching certification in just five years through a seamless dual degree program. You can choose from three tracks:

Elementary Education
Elementary Education with Special Education Cross-Endorsement
Secondary Education
The Elementary Education programs are open to undergraduate students in Interdisciplinary Studies, while the Secondary Education program is open to undergraduate students majoring in Biology, Chemistry, English, History, Mathematics and Spanish.

Dual degree students are guaranteed admission to the Master of Arts in Teaching program provided they continue, as undergraduate students, to meet program-specific criteria to progress into graduate program enrollment.

PSW Opportunity

Post-Study Work visa or permit, allowing international students on F-1 visas to work in the US after completing their studies, typically through Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Eligibility:
To be eligible for OPT, students must have been enrolled full-time in a US educational institution for at least one academic year and be seeking work related to their major.

Duration:
Students can apply for up to 12 months of OPT, either before they finish their studies (pre-completion) or after graduation (post-completion).

STEM OPT:
Students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields can apply for an extended OPT period of up to 24 months.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Academic Qualifications
High School Diploma:
You must have completed a high school degree or its equivalent, representing the final 12 years of formal education.

Transcripts:
You need to provide official transcripts from all secondary and post-secondary schools you attended.

While SAT/ACT scores are optional, a strong academic record and GPA are critical, with most admitted students having a GPA of 3.4 or higher.

English Language Proficiency
Required Tests:
Proof of English proficiency is necessary for international students. Accepted tests and minimum scores include:
