Teacher Leadership, Graduate Certificate

The Teacher Leadership Certificate program is designed to enable teachers to earn a Teacher Leader Endorsement under the New Jersey Teacher Leader Law. Through NJ DOE (Department of Education), teachers are allowed to add a Teacher Leader Endorsement onto their initial instructional certificate by completing a state approved program that is aligned to the Teacher Leader Model of Standards. To meet the demand of this new certificate, a 12-credit hybrid course of study was developed at WPU. This two-semester, cohort-based program requires the completion of four (3 credit) courses outlined below. Candidates will study the seven domains of the Teacher Leader Model Standards throughout the program as recommended by the state.

Two existing courses (EDLP 6010 & EDLP 6030) will be used in the program. Two new courses (EDLP 6200 & EDLP 6210) were developed to fulfil internship requirements. Internship experiences totaling 60 hours, 30 hours each of two semesters, will require candidates to gain varied experiences as a curriculum coordinator, instructional coach, teacher facilitator, and mentor in their school settings. EDLP 6200 covers the collaborate dimensions of teacher leadership and EDLP 6210 covers the use of research and data analysis to inform practice and improve learning outcomes. Instructors will supervise internship projects and assessments, and candidates will be required to keep a log detailing their intern experiences (e.g., community outreach projects; research based professional development workshops for peers and/or parents; coach or mentor a peer, etc.). Candidates will demonstrate competency based on Teacher Leader Model Standards-aligned assessments.

Promotional Process

A ranked listing of our employees who have taken and passed the State promotional examination for a particular title, is provided to the Office of Human Resources for use when such titles become available at the University.  This promotional list contains only the names of William Paterson University employees.

Permanent Process

Career Service promotional opportunities, when available, are filled by following the process dictated by the NJ Civil Service Commission.  Each action listed below must be followed and completed prior to moving on to the next step.

Employees appearing on an active promotional list are notified of the opportunity.  Those expressing interest are subject to an interview process, and the selected candidate is promoted in a permanent status upon the successful completion of the Working Test Period.

Provisional Process

In instances where no active promotional list exists, Human Resources solicits employees in eligible titles.  Those expressing interest are subject to an interview process. The candidate selected is promoted in a provisional status and will be subject to the NJ Civil Service Commission examination process.

Advancement Process

There are titles classified by Civil Service Regulations as "non-competitive". Non-competitive titles are not subject to the promotional examination process as part of the requirement to advance to a higher title in the non-competitive division.  These titles include: Clerk Typist, Building Maintenance Worker, Grounds Worker, Security Officer and Program Assistant, Administrative Services.
