Doctor of Psychology (Clinical and Forensic Psychology)
Course description
This higher degree by research combines intensive high-level research training in clinical psychology and training in forensic psychology by way of coursework, clinical placements and a research thesis concerned with clinical forensic psychology. The program will train highly qualified researchers and clinicians who can work in clinical and forensic psychology domains.
Prospective students may also wish to consider the Doctor of Philosophy (Clinical Psychology) (DR-PHICP) and Master of Psychology (Clinical Psychology) (MA-PSYCLP) (domestic only).
Prospective students interested in a research-only PhD in related areas (without clinical psychology training) may wish to consider the Doctor of Philosophy [Health Sciences] (DR-HTHSCI).
Course structure
To receive the award of Doctor of Psychology (Clinical and Forensic Psychology) students must satisfactorily complete 100 credit points in the designated coursework component, 1,500 hours of placement (50 credit points) and must receive a pass from at least two of the nominated examiners for their thesis (250 credit points) in order to complete this degree.

- Research (thesis and embedded research in the coursework)
- Coursework component and
- Placement component

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
* Applicants must have completed at least four years (or equivalent) of tertiary education studies in a relevant discipline at a high level of achievement, and must have been approved for the award of the degree(s) for which they studied.
* A high level of achievement is defined as the equivalent of a four year Swinburne Honours degree that includes a significant research component in the fourth year, leading to an Honours degree class 1 (average grade between 80-100) or class 2A (average grade between 70-79) level.
* Four years of tertiary studies can be demonstrated by the completion of any of the combinations of qualifications below, at the required standard of achievement:
- a bachelor degree (three or four years) and a Masters by Research; or
- a bachelor degree (three or four years) and an Honours year; or
- a bachelor degree (three or four years) and a Masters by Coursework; or
- a bachelor degree (three or four years) and a postgraduate diploma in Psychology; or
- a bachelor degree (four years) in an approved discipline.
- Completion of Australian Year 12 or equivalent.
- You need a minimum of 65% in Year XII (only the main subjects plus English will be considered).
- Punjab and Haryana State Board Students need a minimum of 85% in class 12 to qualify in any course.
