Registered Practical Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing

The Nursing degree program is designed to prepare students to provide nursing care in a variety of settings. Graduates will work within the scope of nursing practice and in accordance with the regulations of the College of Nurses of Ontario. Nursing students will be able to care for individual clients or groups, including family members and significant others. Students will make clinical decisions and exercise judgment in giving care to clients. Graduates will be eligible to write the National Council Licensure Examination - Registered Nurse (NCLEX - RN) to achieve the professional status of Registered Nurse in Canada.

This Transfer Credit Pathway Program is designed to provide practicing Registered Practical Nurses with an opportunity to enter the Collaborative BScN program in the second year and complete the program in 3 years.

Current Opportunities

Candidates with non-North American credentials must provide a World Education Services (WES) evaluation confirming the Canadian equivalency of the credentials. Non-North American credentials must be at an accredited, recognized post-secondary institution and must be deemed to be equivalent to a certificate, diploma, or degree at a recognized post-secondary institution in Ontario. Candidates who have non-North American credentials who have not yet been assessed as indicated above are expected to make application to WES. Offers of employment require a completed evaluation from WES.

PSW Opportunity

Eligibility for Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP):
Graduated from a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada.
Desire to stay in Canada temporarily for work.

Important Note:
Graduating from a DLI doesn't automatically qualify you for a PGWP.

Validity of PGWP:
Depends on the length of the study program or the expiry date of your passport, whichever comes first.

Duration of PGWP Based on Study Program Length:
Less than 8 months (or 900 hours for Quebec credentials): Not eligible for PGWP.
At least 8 months (or 900 hours for Quebec credentials), but less than 2 years: PGWP may be granted for the same length as the study program (e.g., a 9-month program results in a 9-month PGWP).
2 years or more: PGWP may be valid for 3 years.

Completion of Multiple Programs:
PGWP may combine the lengths of each program if:
Each program is PGWP eligible.
Each program is at least 8 months (or 900 hours for Quebec credentials) in length.

Important Restriction:
You cannot obtain a PGWP if you already had one after completing an earlier program of study.

For Diploma, Degree and Graduate Certificate Programs

At St. Clair College all courses are taught in English and to be successful in a program, your English communication, listening, comprehension, reading and writing skills must be at a level to meet the demands of your program.

General diploma programs admission requirement for international students are as follows:

Canada & USA: High school diploma and transcript, or equivalent.

British education system: General Certificate of Education showing passes in six (6) academic subjects (including English) at the Ordinary level.

Caribbean countries (English): High school diploma and transcript, or equivalent.

Philippines: High school diploma (Grade 12) and transcript, or equivalent, or High School diploma (Grade 10) and a minimum of one year Post-Secondary education and Transcript.

West Africa (Nigeria, Ghana, etc.): WAEC (or NECO) transcript with online verifying scratch card number and PIN required.
