ARTS (PATHWAYS IN FINE ART OR PHOTOGRAPHY) MA

We're looking for fine artists and photographers who are strongly motivated and independently minded. We will help you to shape your individual creative practice by encouraging reflection and re-evaluation, research and experimentation
 
Our academic team have a wide range of backgrounds with expertise in fine art, photography, film, public art, performance, curatorship, critical theory, art history, philosophy and criticism, residencies and commissions. We're sure you'll thrive in this diverse creative community

You will have access to outstanding facilities, including darkrooms, equipment and software that are the envy of most professional photographers, and recently refurbished Fine Art Studios in our historic Britannia Mill site.

Our Derby Campus is made up of several different sites. Getting between them and the halls of residence couldn't be easier. Whether you're heading to lectures or into town, you can hop on to our free Unibuses or enjoy a walk to unwind or set you up for the day.

As a graduate from this programme, you will have developed a mature body of work in photography or fine art, as well as gaining the language and skills you need to locate and explain your practice in the professional art world. You will be well-placed to forge a career as an independent artist/photographer, or look for employment in sectors such as the creative industries, education, museums, libraries and archives, or publishing and broadcasting.

PSW Opportunity

  • 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
  • 3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Bachelors degrees from institutions recognised by NARIC or government recognised institutions
Requirements will vary depending on recognition of institution and scoring system used. Applications are considered on a case-by-case basis
A score of 60% is considered comparable to a UK 2:1; a score of 50% is considered comparable to a UK 2:2 plus work experience
 
For most of our programmes at bachelors degree level and above, you will normally need an IELTS score of between 6.0 and 7.0 with a pre-requisite minimum score in all areas. (speaking, reading, writing and listening). We will accept one of the alternative equivalent qualifications below:

TOEFL iBT Overall score of 79 - 100 (with specific minimum score requirements for each component)
LanguageCert International ESOL SELT B2 – C1
Michigan English Assessment Battery (MELAB)
