The QUT law degree will provide you with the knowledge and confidence you need to apply the law in an array of legal careers. Through your study, you will understand key areas of law and develop advanced knowledge in areas that interest you. Your study will also develop necessary legal skills such as legal research, problem-solving, dispute resolution, and oral and written communication. Our course will also help you understand and promote the ethical standards of the legal profession and to appreciate international and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives.

New Law, Technology and Innovation Minor
Our minor in law, technology and innovation cover topics including how the law is responding to new developments in artificial intelligence, robotics, 3D printing, and autonomous vehicles. The minor complements the core law program and prepares our graduates to be adaptable legal professionals who are skilled for new careers which will evolve as a result of innovation and technology disruption.
Real-world learning
As you progress through your degree you will complete a number of compulsory units including contracts, torts, real property law, evidence, constitutional law, equity and trusts, criminal law and corporate law. You will also choose from a range of introductory, general and advanced elective units that match your career interests such as:
- intellectual property, technology, and innovation law
- international law, human rights, and immigration law
- international private law and commercial arbitration
- comparative law such as the Chinese legal system
- commercial law including taxation, banking and finance, and environmental and planning law
- private law including family law and criminal law.
Your advanced studies will conclude with a legal research capstone unit that includes a virtual internship with a top-tier firm. Through the virtual internship, you will have the opportunity to undertake authentic legal tasks and to engage with experienced lawyers. In 2019 students are undertaking the internship with MinterEllison. As part of the course, you may study up to four non-law electives to align with your planned career. It is possible that the four non-law electives can be studied as a minor.
Campus Information
Gardens Point
Gardens Point campus is located in Brisbane's city centre, beside the Brisbane River and adjacent to the City Botanic Gardens and Queensland Parliament House. At the centre of the campus is the Old Government House which was built in 1862 and re-opened in 2009.The faculties of Business, Law, and Science and Engineering are based at this campus.
