In this double degree, students complete the requirements for two separate degrees in four and a half years. The course consists of units in fine arts and education.

In the Bachelor of Education component students are prepared as teachers with specialist understandings for secondary school learners in two teaching and learning discipline areas, with one teaching area based on your music major. For the other teaching area, you can choose one of:

• English
• geography
• history or
• mathematics.

Our music degree prepares aspiring musicians for the rapidly changing music industry. Students are encouraged to create works across musical boundaries and strike out in new directions.  

In your final year, you’ll work on transdisciplinary industry-connected projects with students from other study areas in the performing arts. You can also participate in music projects which focus on artist development and music-related research.

From your first year, you’ll collaborate with students and teaching staff from across disciplines to reflect industry practice and work on real-world projects briefed by real clients, along with career planning assistance to help you on your creative journey.

And, at the most technically advanced creative space in Australia, you can develop your creativity and collaborate and exhibit in technology-equipped spaces. End-of-year showcase events, performances, and exhibitions are an important feature of all courses and are celebrated by friends, family, industry and the arts community.

Real-world learning

The program includes substantial professional experience connected to on-campus learning. QUT organizes professional experience placements to give you the opportunity to work in real school classrooms, supervised by practicing professional educators.
