Today’s photography industry is a constantly expanding field that includes web, video, installation, and emerging imaging technologies such as virtual reality and 3D modelling. The internationally renowned Image Arts: Photography Media Arts program embraces a full range of lens-based media with a focus on creating images that compel, provoke and inspire viewers. 

Create your own path or mix and match between contemporary art, documentary, editorial, commercial, photojournalism and creative image-making. Learn all aspects of photography and media art including camera and lighting, installation experience, 3D environments, graphic design, and curation, among others. 

Work placements, visiting artists programs, workshops, interdisciplinary collaborations and practical assignments, including publishing and professional gallery exhibitions, are also available to students. You can also access the Image Centre, Canada’s leading centre for the research and exhibition of photography, which contains the world-renowned Black Star Collection.

PSW Opportunity

If your program was less than 8 months

  •    You aren’t eligible for a PGWP.

If your program was more than 8 months but less than 2 years

  •    We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for up to the same length as your study program.

For example, if you completed a 9-month program, we may give you a work permit for up to 9 months.

If your program was 2 years or more

  •    We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for 3 years.

If you completed more than 1 program

  •    You may be able to get a PGWP that combines the length of each program.

Each of the programs you completed -

  • must be PGWP-eligible and at least 8 months in length

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent with a minimum of six Grade 12 U or M courses including the following program specific requirements.

Typically, a minimum overall average of 70% establishes eligibility for admission consideration; subject to competition individual programs may require higher prerequisite grades and/or higher overall averages:

  • English/anglais (ENG4U/EAE4U preferred)
  • The minimum grade required in the subject prerequisite (normally in the 65-70% range) will be determined subject to competition.

Non-academic requirements 

This is a Grades-Plus program. In addition to meeting competitive academic requirements, you are required to submit the following non-academic requirements. Your ability to follow and adhere to the requirements is part of the assessment of your application.
