Applied Geology - Ph.D.
The Ph.D. degree in Applied Geology prepares students for careers in industry and academic institutions where research into the application of geological principles focuses on solutions to basic and applied research questions. Focus areas include environmental research (water, surface and subsurface processes; geohazards; and natural resources), as well as evolution of earth's systems research (climate change, paleoecology and evolution, crustal processes).

Job Opportunity Potential
Graduates of this program will be able to:
- Show in-depth comprehension of several areas, including both basic and applied aspects of geology/earth sciences.
- Demonstrate the ability to formulate testable scientific hypotheses and carry out independent research using appropriate field, experimental, analytical and/or computational methods.
- Describe, synthesize and interpret the results of a scientific investigation and understand its broader applications.

Post-Study Work visa or permit, allowing international students on F-1 visas to work in the US after completing their studies, typically through Optional Practical Training (OPT).
Eligibility:
To be eligible for OPT, students must have been enrolled full-time in a US educational institution for at least one academic year and be seeking work related to their major.
Duration:
Students can apply for up to 12 months of OPT, either before they finish their studies (pre-completion) or after graduation (post-completion).
STEM OPT:
Students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields can apply for an extended OPT period of up to 24 months.

All graduate applicants must obtain a minimum TOEFL-IBT score of 71 -or- a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 -or- a minimum PTE score of 48 -or- a minimum DET score of 100 for full-time academic admission, with the many exceptions for individual graduate programs:
