Graduate Certificate in Economics

The Graduate Certificate in Economics provides a pathway to the Master of Economics degree in one of the world’s top 50 economic schools. In this program, you’ll develop essential knowledge in microeconomics and econometrics and gain strong quantitative skills. You will also have the opportunity to apply to the Master of Economics after completion, although courses completed in the Graduate Certificate do not count towards the higher degree.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

The minimum entry requirement is:

  • a bachelor degree from an Australian university or equivalent overseas institution in economics (BEc); OR
  • other advanced cognate disciplines with required technical skills (e.g. mathematics, finance, or statistics) with WAM of 65%, plus a compulsory component of intermediate level microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics as well as competency in mathematical and statistical methods; OR
  • equivalent as determined by the UNSW Business School. Entrance to the program also requires that applicants should:
  • have achieved an average of 65% or higher in the last two years of economics and quantitative methods courses in their bachelor degree; and*satisfy the University's English Language requirement. Applicants without an adequate background may be required to undertake some preliminary coursework in intermediate microeconomics, macroeconomics as well as econometrics.
