The SIT40521 Certificate IV in Kitchen Management reflects the role of chefs and cooks who have a supervisory or team leading role in the kitchen. They operate independently or with limited guidance from others and use discretion to solve non-routine problems.
This qualification provides a pathway to work in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops, or to run a small business in these sectors. Possible job titles include chef and chef de partie, and no occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.
The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.
This course runs over 78 weeks with 25 hours per week. Students who successfully complete this course may continue with further study at Diploma or Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management or Diploma or Advanced Diploma level in business and/or Leadership and Management at CTI.

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.
- Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
- Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
- Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
- The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants
Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:
- Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
- Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
- Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
- PhD students can stay upto 4 years
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
There are no entry requirements for the individual units of competencies that make up this qualification, however CTI have the following entry requirements specific:
- English level evidence (Upper Intermediate level / IELTS 5.5 / PTE equivalent)
- 18 years and above with a High School Certificate (Year 12)
- Physically capability for manual handling activities
