BSc (Hons) Psychology with Development and Education

Our accredited Psychology with Development and Education degree focuses on child and adolescent development. Gain the knowledge and expertise you need to work effectively with children and young people. 

You’ll develop a deep understanding of children’s minds, emotions, and behaviours at different life stages, including those with divergent needs. This means studying the reasons for developmental disorders and psychological challenges, and how to provide effective support and treatment. There’s also a work placement option to help you put theory into practice. You'll cover topics such as: 

Language, communication, social relationships and social interaction.

Learning and Education across childhood.

Changing patterns of childhood experience including interactions with technology.

Atypical child development such as neurodivergence, developmental disorders, and mental health issues that typically emerge in childhood.

You’ll learn about the theoretical and applied aspects of child development, culminating in your final year supervised project on a topic you choose.

The Careers Service is here to support you with career decision-making during your studies and after you graduate.

We provide a professional career guidance and information service for Abertay students and graduates to help them make informed career choices. We work closely with employers and academic schools to support you by developing your skills to maximize your employability.

The Careers Service can support your career planning in a number of ways, including:

  • Developing your employability skills
  • Identifying potential career options
  • Helping you to find work experience
  • Helping you to understand and demonstrate the skills needed to market yourself to employers
  • We do this through face-to-face individual support with our professional advisors and group workshops.

PSW Opportunity

  • 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
  • 3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.?

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Academic Requirements

  • Applicants will typically be required to pass the Indian Senior School (Year 12) exam at an average of 60%, to include any essential subject(s) at 65%.
  • Applicants will typically be required to achieve CCC at A-Level, to include any essential subject(s).
  • Applicants will typically be required to pass the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma with an overall score of 28 points, to include any essential subject(s) at S5 or H4.

English language: English B at S5 or H4 is accepted. For English A, no grade is specified. For alternative English language qualifications, 

Applicants will typically require a High School GPA of 3.0, plus one of the following:

  • SAT (I) score of 1100
  • 3 AP Tests at grades 333
  • 3 SAT Subject Tests at 600
  • ACT Composite score of 25

A combination of AP/SAT II tests may be used, provided they are in different subjects.

English Language Requirements

All courses at Abertay University are taught in English. If your first language is not English, you will need to demonstrate that you meet our English language requirements. Accepted English language qualifications include:

IELTS - overall score of 6.0 with no band lower than 5.5

TOEFL - overall score of 78 (individual elements: L-17, R-18, S-20, W-17)

Cambridge FCE/CAE/CPE - overall score of 169 on Cambridge Grading Scale

International Baccalaureate - English B at S5 or H4, English A no specific grade required

European Baccalaureate - English Language 1 at grade 6 or English Language 2 at grade 7
