Diploma of Nursing
The HLT54121 Diploma of Nursing will provide you with the knowledge, skills and attributes to become an Enrolled Nurse. The course is designed for domestic and international students, studying in Australia.
Nursing is one of the most sought after and rewarding careers in healthcare today. Enrolled Nurses work in a variety of healthcare environments to provide clinical care and emotional support to their patients.
The course can provide a pathway into the second year of the Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Wollongong (UOW). You’ll learn how to communicate effectively with patients and other staff, administer and monitor medications, manage the care of wounds and prepare health assessments and care plans. You will also benefit from on-the-job clinical placements in which you will work as part of a team and under the supervision of Registered Nurses.
You will graduate with a nationally recognised qualification in Nursing in just 18 months with a diverse range of real, practical skills ready for a rewarding career with a world of opportunities.
DELIVERY
The course comprises of academic content, clinical and laboratory simulations, and participation in clinical placement.
Throughout the course, you will attend a minimum of 20 hours of face-to-face study per week on campus (Wollongong or Liverpool).
The theory components and practical simulations of this course will be delivered on campus, while clinical placements will be scheduled at facilities in the Illawarra and Sydney regions. In accordance with the stabilisation of the COVID-19 crisis in NSW, the mode of delivery for this course has resumed to 3 days face-to-face delivery at the UOW College, Wollongong or Liverpool campuses. UOW College Australia will continue to monitor and follow any recommendations relating to COVID-19 safe practices and will make adjustments to the mode of delivery as necessary. Alternate delivery arrangements will be advised if NSW Health orders or other COVID-19 safe practices or recommendations are imposed.

- Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
- Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
- Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
- The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants
Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:
- Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
- Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
- Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
- PhD students can stay upto 4 years
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
If you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident who has completed your high school education overseas, and it is comparable to an Australian Year 12 qualification you may be able to use your results to study at UOW College. UOW College converts all results to an ATAR, so to be considered for admission, each applicant needs to reach the current minimum ATAR required for the course they are applying for.
Please apply directly to UOW or UOW College. The friendly team at UOW Future Students can advise if your qualification is equivalent to a Year 12 qualification in Australia and can be considered for admission.
All approved English language proficiency tests must be undertaken within two years of your course commencement date. English language proficiency tests must be taken at a test centre, UOW does not accept online/at home versions of any of the tests listed below.
