Master of Arts in Economics (Non-Thesis)
Every warrior has his or her own strengths, and if yours are critical thinking, mathematical skills and statistical analysis, a career in the ever-changing world of economics could be perfect for you. At TROY, leap into the next phase of your education by becoming part of our Master of Economics program where you’ll put your natural gifts to use.
Conquer your next academic milestone as a member of one of the only programs in the Southeast designed to help prepare students interested in continuing their pursuit of a Ph.D. in economics. Come work in class with internationally renowned economists who are excited to share their knowledge and real-life experiences with you while your understanding of your chosen field continues to grow. As a student within TROY’s Master of Economics program, you’ll have the unique opportunity to learn from a faculty featuring the academic talents of experts trained in the areas of Austrian economics, public choice economics and constitutional economics.
Whether you take the program’s thesis or non-thesis route, by making the most of what TROY has to offer, you’ll graduate with an advanced knowledge of microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics. Get ready to leap into a rewarding career or enter a Ph.D. program with the ability to conduct in-depth research as you implement your newly honed skills to communicate the findings of your economics research as well as the work of others. The academic development you’ll experience at TROY will help you present yourself as a learned and professional economist to others who have also achieved the same level of analytical and communicative expertise.
A master’s degree in economics will allow you to find a rewarding career in a wide array of jobs. Many economists find themselves employed by the Federal Reserve System as well as other federal, state and local government agencies. On the state level, a professional economist with a graduate degree can find career opportunities at tax commissions, departments of banking and insurance and state public service or utilities commissions. There are also many career options within the private sector and with public policy institutes and think tanks.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects the demand for economists with graduate-level educations will see a 8 percent increase between 2018 and 2028. According to the BLS, the national median salary for a master's degree-holding economist was $104,340 per year in 2018.
