Master of Occupational Therapy Practice

The Master of Occupational Therapy Practice (MOTPrac) requires full-time enrolment over two years from July to June (mid-year intake). The course requires full-time enrolment and has an integrated curriculum centred on scenario-based learning, which includes 1000 hours of practice education to meet the educational requirements of the Occupational Therapy Council of Australia Ltd (OTC) and the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT).

The course has an integrated curriculum centred on Scenario-Based Learning (SBL). The two years of the SBL curriculum is organised into the following units: Foundations of Occupational Therapy, Humans as Occupational Beings, Occupational Performance, Enabling Change in Human Occupation, Transition to Practice and Advanced Professional Practice. Students complete an extensive practice based project.

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) with at least high credit (65%) average, and have completed either:

  • A minimum of at least one six-credit-point unit of study in human anatomy AND physiology or
  • The Monash Human Biology short course* or
  • BMA1901 Human Structure and Function as a single-unit enrolment at Monash

Applicants who are already registered Occupational Therapists in Australia or overseas are not eligible to be considered for this course.
