OVERVIEW

This is a three-year programme that prepares the student for employment as an assistant medical officer (AMO) in the medical and health care sector. This programme aims to prepare competent AMOs who possess the skill and evidence-based knowledge to carry out their duties safely and comprehensively both to the patient as well as to the community, in accordance with ethics and rules. It enables graduates to diagnose health conditions through appropriate examination and investigation and deliver treatments and other actions successfully. They will also be able to work in counseling, research, managerial, quality assurance and information technology position. The Diploma is approved by the Malaysian Medical Assistant Board and the Ministry of Health, Government of Malaysia. Upon graduation, the students are required to take the Medical Assistant Registry Exam to be awarded the Annual Practice Certificate.

 

CAREER PROSPECTS

After graduation, the students would be eligible to obtain employment as Medical Assistant or Assistant Medical Officers (AMO) in public hospitals and recognized by the Medical Assistant Board, Ministry of Health Malaysia. A student could also be employed at private hospitals/clinics, outpatient care centers, nursing, and residential care facilities, offices of physicians and other health care practitioners.

 Opportunities are also available in the oil and gas industry, plantation, government agencies, TNB, police department, prisons department, welfare home, and university/college’s clinics.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

• Pass Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or its equivalent with a minimum of five (5) credits inclusive of the following:

i. Bahasa Malaysia
ii. Mathematics or Add Maths
iii. General Science or Biology or Chemistry
iv. Two (2) credits from any other subjects and
v. Pass in English (preference to those with credit in English)

• Health Requirements
  Must be medically fit and free from mental illness, infectious diseases (HIV-AIDS, Hepatitis B, and C), epilepsy, genetic disease, drug abuse and etc.
