West Chester University’s Bachelor of Science (B.S.Ed.) in Education in Middle Grades Preparation is highly regarded for preparing qualified candidates for professional education certification in grades four through eight. We provide more than 100 candidates with rigorous and engaging coursework, a diverse set of learning opportunities, and on campus education-related activities and organizations. Students who are interested in teaching the seventh or eighth grade must choose a content area of concentration. At WCU, students have several choices including: English Language Arts, Math, Science, and/or Social Studies. At WCU, education field placements begin in your first semester and continue in various settings throughout all four years of studies, including both upper elementary classrooms and middle schools in public schools throughout southeastern Pennsylvania. Get Involved: Alpha Upsilon Alpha (the Literacy Honor Society) Student PSEA (nationally recognized chapter; more than 240 members on campus)

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Arrange for official (translated) transcripts and exam results to be sent to the Office of Admissions.
If in English, transcripts/exam results should be sent directly by your school to the Office of Admissions. Official translations would also need to be sent to the Office of Admissions if transcripts/exam results are not in English. Test results - IELTS, TOEFL, SAT, ACT, or Duolingo need to be sent directly by the testing agency to the Office of Admissions.
Proof of English language proficiency via one of the following options:
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
Applicants must score a minimum of 80 on the internet based test (ibt) or a minimum of 550 on the written test. SAT or ACT scores can also be submitted and will be considered as a supplement to the TOEFL. The TOEFL institution code for West Chester University is 2659.
IELTS (International English Language Testing Service)
Applicants must receive an overall IELTS score at band 6.0 or above, and minimum scores of 6.0 for speaking, listening, reading and writing are preferred.
Duolingo
Applicants must receive an overall Duolingo score of 105 or above.
Completion of ELS Level 112
WCU is proud to partner with ELS Language Centers to offer conditional admission to eligible students. Once ELS Level 112 is successfully completed, enrollment at WCU as a degree-seeking student is possible.
Applicants who have taken the SAT or ACT must arrange for official scores to be sent to the Office of Admissions.
Attention Education Majors: In order to become certified as a teacher in Pennsylvania, you must be a US citizen or US permanent resident.
