Environmental Technician (Fast Track) - College Diploma
Add to your diploma or degree by developing the essential skills required for employment in the environmental sector and in all facets of the green economy. The Environmental Technician program provides a well-rounded background for employment in a wide range of sectors by providing courses in water and air quality, waste management, occupational health and safety, and environmental assessment.
Students benefit from the College’s partnership with the St. Lawrence River Institute of Environmental Sciences. The River Institute, located on the Cornwall Campus, is a centre for scientific research focused on the St. Lawrence River and the surrounding environment. Scientists at the River Institute are actively involved in the teaching of many of the science and field courses in the Environmental Technician program and they work closely with the College in ongoing program development. By way of this partnership, students have the opportunity to learn and work with leading research scientists on a variety of environmental issues.

Current environmental legislation requires increased monitoring and testing of the natural environment and the industrial, agriculture and public sectors. Employment opportunities are expanding in these areas.
Graduates of the Environmental Technician program find work in the following areas:

Types of activities you may carry out in these career areas include:
- Sampling air, water, soil, plant, and animal populations
- Testing air, water, and soil samples in the lab
- Assessing areas for environmental impact
- Designing ways to reduce the impact of waste on the environment
- Implementing legislation requirements and health and safety procedures
- Assisting in the design of environmental programs in the public and private sectors
- Preparing reports and proposals
- Entering and analyzing data using computer applications

If your program was less than 8 months
- You aren’t eligible for a PGWP.
If your program was more than 8 months but less than 2 years
- We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for up to the same length as your study program.
For example, if you completed a 9-month program, we may give you a work permit for up to 9 months.
If your program was 2 years or more
- We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for 3 years.
If you completed more than 1 program
- You may be able to get a PGWP that combines the length of each program.
Each of the programs you completed -
- must be PGWP-eligible and at least 8 months in length
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
- University degree or college diploma which includes courses in Introductory Biology, Introductory Chemistry, and, at a minimum, an introductory-level college mathematics course.
