>  IMPRESS PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYERS WHILE ENHANCING EMPLOYABILITY.
>  START BUILDING A NETWORK OF INDUSTRY CONTACTS TO ACCELERATE CAREER PROGRESSION.

ENHANCING EMPLOYABILITY
Relevant work experience is one of the first things prospective employers look for. An academic internship is a highly valuable addition to both your degree and your professional resume. Through an academic internship, you will gain exposure to a professional environment and experience the day-to-day operations of a business.

HOW IT WORKS
Our academic internships can be undertaken as elective subjects if you are studying a Bachelor of Business, a Graduate Diploma of Business Administration or a Master of Business Administration. Placements are arranged by Careers Central and will be determined via a job interview process with both Kaplan Business School and the host company. Alternatively, we can support you to source your
own internship with a business. Internships are unpaid and the electives are assessable as part of your degree. To be eligible, your grade point average as a minimum must be a Pass.
* Based on students who completed an academic internship between September 2017 and June 2018.

STRUCTURE
The academic internship is structured so that 20% of your final mark will be determined by a rating assigned to you by your host employer. Every internship also includes an academic component. There are several assignments that are set for you throughout the trimester, such as a learning contract and reflective journal, which also serve as great opportunities to consolidate your learning in the workplace.

WHO CAN SIGN UP?
Our academic internships can be undertaken as elective subjects if you are studying one of the following programs:

  • Bachelor of Business – Course CRICOS code 067756B.
  • Bachelor of Business (Accounting) – Course CRICOS code 085958J.
  • Bachelor of Business (Hospitality & Tourism Management) – Course CRICOS code 085961C.
  • Bachelor of Business (Marketing) – Course CRICOS code 087660M.
  • Bachelor of Business (Management) – Course CRICOS code 085959G.
  • Graduate Diploma of Business Administration – Course CRICOS code 078566F.
  • Master of Business Administration – Course CRICOS code 078565G.

REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS
The academic component of an internship means it is not enough to just turn up for work. You need to also submit (and successfully pass) the assignments that are set for you. There are several of these throughout the trimester, such as a learning contract and a reflective journal. Indeed, 20% of your final mark will be determined by a rating assigned to you by your host employer, which is why it’s critical you perform at your best while you’re in the workplace.
In addition to the ongoing support you’ll receive from the internship intermediary and our own Work Integrated Learning Coordinator, you will also have access every week to a dedicated online lecturer. This lecturer will be regularly posting a range of resources on MyKBS to further assist you to excel in the workplace and in this subject. This curriculum will include communication skills, critical thinking, teamwork, time management, self-management, interpersonal skills, problem-solving and conflict resolution.

Once your application for an internship has been approved and a host employer for you has been found, we recommend you immediately access the subject outline. That outline will clearly state the learning outcomes for this internship and an overview of the assessment requirements. One week prior to the start of the trimester, you will also have access to the comprehensive assessment briefs, which will detail what (and when) you’re expected to submit your assignments online. It’s important you ask your lecturer for clarification if any of those documents seem unclear.
