DIPLOMA in Social work
Gain foundational knowledge in the history and ethics of social work, and practise critical thinking to understand the causes and impacts of social issues. Blend theory and application as you learn to work with individuals, families and communities to assess, intervene and provide support.
The Social Work Diploma is designed to meet the standards for excellence in social work practice and graduates are eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).
Practicum is a valuable experiential opportunity to put your academic learning into practice. Required for the Social Work Diploma, spend 700 hours throughout the program in related field experience, while under supervision that will help connect theory to real-world application and prepare you for employment upon graduation.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Program-specific admission requirements
Admission is competitive. Applicants must meet both the competitive admission average for the specific program and present specific required courses with the minimum required grades. In addition to meeting general admission requirements, admission to the Social Work Diploma requires the following specific high school courses (or equivalents).
Applicants in all admission categories must present:
English Language Arts 30-1 - minimum grade 65%
Social Studies 30-1 or Aboriginal Studies 30 - minimum grade 60%
Competitive admission average
Admission to Mount Royal is competitive, meaning students with higher grades will be considered first.
High School Applicant: competitive admission average will be calculated on two highest Group A courses.
Mature Applicant: competitive admission average will be calculated on two highest Group A courses.
Post-secondary Applicant: competitive Grade Point Average (GPA) will be calculated on the four most recently completed transferable post-secondary courses (minimum 12 credits) completed by December 31.
