GRADUATE CERTIFICATE OF COUNSELLING

The Graduate Certificate of Counselling provides an introduction to the field of counselling and equips students with some foundational counselling skills and knowledge.

This course is designed for students who have an undergraduate degree in another discipline and want to develop a skills foundation for work in the helping professions, or to gain entry to further postgraduate counselling studies. Successful completion of the Graduate Certificate of Counselling provides a direct pathway to the Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy course at ACAP.

This course has also been accredited by the Navitas Professional Institute (NPI) under its self-accrediting authority.

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

  • A Bachelor degree with at least 4 cognate units (for example in social sciences, psychology, community and welfare work, nursing, allied health, counselling), or
  • A Bachelor degree with evidence of at least six months of full-time study in social sciences, or equivalent

AND

  • A written 500-word statement outlining your interest in studying social work

Minimum English Language Requirements

International student IELTS requirement: Academic IELTS minimum overall band of 6.5 with no individual band below 6.0 completed in the last two years (or equivalent).

Overseas qualifications must be deemed by ACAP as equivalent to Australian qualifications.

The accrediting body may have additional requirements, including minimum English language, to meet professional accreditation standards. For more information on meeting those requirements visit aasw.asn.au.

*Not available as a stand-alone course for International students. The Admissions Criteria is relevant for students seeking entry into the Master of Social Work (Qualifying) upon completion of this course.
