Bachelor of Economics - Financial Economics

Combine an economic understanding of money and banking, with a practical knowledge of how financial markets operate, at both a local and global level. You'll develop your quantitative data analytic skills with the software and technology available in our world-class Rosemarie Nathanson Financial Markets Trading Room and engage in an internship with a private or public organisation. 
The Financial Economics Extended Major is unique to WA and sits within our Bachelor of Economics degree. This major has been designed specifically for students who wish to combine an economic understanding of money and banking, with a practical knowledge of how financial markets operate, at both a domestic and global level. 

You’ll learn core microeconomic and macroeconomic principles, as well as develop an understanding of the important role that money and banking play in an economy. Course content will cover monetary economics, banking in theory and practice, international finance, and how money, banking and financial markets operate. Coupled with developing deep knowledge of money, banking and financial markets, you’ll also develop your quantitative data analytic skills which are highly sought-after by employers. You’ll gain expertise using our world-class Trading Room, developing skills using the software and technology found in large modern financial institutions.

With further study, the two co-requisite majors in Architecture can lead to a career in architecture, urban design, architectural drafting, architectural education/academia or government policy. You could work in architectural and urban design practice, city and regional planning, government agencies, higher education, property development and architectural illustration and modelling.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years
