Inclusive Sport and Physical Activity Bachelor of Science (Honours)

This programme in Inclusive Sport and Physical Activity offers prospective students the opportunity to study health, adapted physical activity (APA), inclusive physical education and sport in an honours degree programme which focuses particularly on the provision of opportunities for people with disabilities, as well as for the population in general. In recent years, government sport and health policy has focused on increasing choice and opportunities for adults and children with disabilities to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. This course aims to develop the professional skills to achieve this change.

The Kerry Campus of MTU is recognised internationally as one of the leading centres in the world for inclusion education and APA. This programme is delivered in partnership with a variety of community organisations so that students get hands on experience working with clients. This allows students to apply theoretical knowledge to real life situations and provides valuable experience so that graduates are work ready on completion of the course.

Unique modules in this course include: Aquatic Rehabilitation where students work 1:1 in the hydrotherapy pool with referred patients; Adapted Adventure Education where students design, deliver and review outdoor activity programmes for a specific population group and Exercise Referral where students learn how to prescribe exercise for healthy adults, adults with a range of clinical conditions, children and the elderly.

Students also study Inclusive Aquatics where they engage with community groups and gain internationally recognised qualifications in aquatics including swim/aquatic teaching, aqua fitness, lifeguarding and inclusive aquatics.
