DIPLOMA OF COUNSELLING

As part of our counselling course you will become familiar with evidence-based counselling models, strategies and therapies as well as various communication techniques such as micro-counselling and interviewing skills drawing on varied therapies to assist clients.

After receiving plenty of face-to-face training and role plays to make sure you feel ready and confident to take the next step, you will be able to apply what you have learned in our simulated Clinical Practice module allowing you to use your newly acquired skills with real or simulated clients.

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.
- Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
- Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
- Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
- The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants
Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:
- Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
- Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
- Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
- PhD students can stay upto 4 years
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
You must meet both the academic and English language requirements.
Academic Requirements
- Completion of at least the equivalent of Australian Year 10,
- You must be at least 18 years of age.
- English Language Requirements
You must meet one of the following criteria:
- IELTS score of 5.5 (or equivalent), with no individual band score below 5.0; or
- ALG in-house English proficiency test that is equivalent to IELTS 5.5; or
- A Certificate IV level qualification (or higher) completed within the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) in Australia within 2 years before starting this course; or
- Completion of the Senior Secondary Certificate of Education in Australia and in the English language within 2 years before starting this course.
