Bachelor of Science (Honours) Music & Sound Engineering

As a Music and Sound Engineering (M.A.S.E) student, you will be involved in a wide range of industry- specific assignments and practical work across this unique four-year programme, which encompasses all aspects of sound engineering, instrument technology, and other creative professional development studies that are necessities for work in the creative industry.


Our programme consists of three academic pillars that work together in harmony to give each of our graduates the best possible outcome for their professional career in the creative industry:


Pillar 1 - Sound Engineering: Recording Studio Sound, Live Sound, Music Production, Sound for Film & TV, Video Game Audio, Audio Programming, Radio Broadcast, podcasting, and Foley.
Pillar 2 – Instrument Technology: Woodworking Basics, Mandolin Build, Acoustic Guitar Build, Electric Guitar Build, Acoustic Treatment Builds, Digital Audio, Audio Electronics, and Interactive Audio.
Pillar 3 – Professional Development: Creative Industry Work Experience, Communications, Music Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Event Management, Website Creation, Photography, Videography, and Audio-Visual Composition.

This diversity aims to give graduates of the programme a range of real skills and the flexibility required to work within a highly competitive creative industry and on completion of the programme, you will have assembled an impressive portfolio of industry-related work to take forward into your career. M.A.S.E students have unrivalled access to industry standard equipment and software in state-of-the-art facilities based in one of Ireland’s most prestigious Technological Universities, right in the heart of Ireland.


Being a musician is not a programme pre-requisite, so M.A.S.E is suitable for all candidates.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Application Procedures for Non-EU Students

Students applying for entry to undergraduate or postgraduate programmes should supply the following information directly to the International Office, Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest on or before 1 May for programmes commencing in September:

Completed TUS application form;
Detailed curriculum vitae;
Certified transcripts of examination results and English language translations of qualifications not issued in English
Evidence of ability to follow classes in the English language (which must satisfy Institute entry requirements for the following programmes)
Foundation level programme: Certificate in English for Academic Studies: Minimum IELTS 4.5 or equivalent.

Pre-sessional Summer programme in English June to August: Minimum IELTS 5.0 or equivalent.

Undergraduate programmes: Minimum IELTS 5.5 with no Band less than 5.0.

Postgraduate programmes: Minimum IELTS 6.0 with no Band less than 5.5 *

*note some postgraduate programmes require minimum IELTS 6.5.
