MA Environment, Society and Culture

The MA/M Sc Environment, Society and Culture focuses on the interplay between natural environment and human society, and covers a range of advanced topics across human and physical geography, drawing heavily on MIC staff research expertise. This programme is highly flexible, for instance allowing students to choose, principally via their dissertation research, whether to pursue an Arts or Science Master’s qualification.

Mary Immaculate College is an autonomous, university-level, Catholic College of Education and the Liberal Arts. Founded in 1898, and linked academically with the University of Limerick, MIC is the oldest higher education institution in Limerick.

Significant expansion in recent decades has seen the College’s menu of educational programmes expand across two impressive campuses, one based in the heart of Limerick City and one in Thurles, Co. Tipperary. The diverse student community is made up of more than 5,000 learners, participating in twelve undergraduate degree programmes and a wide range of postgraduate programmes up to and including doctoral level. Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Postgraduate (Taught) Entry Requirements

A four-year or three-year honours degree in a relevant discipline from a recognised university. First-division results are required with a minimum overall grade of 60%*.
Particular programmes may require an interview and/or work experience.
Indian students must provide full transcripts/full marks sheets of each academic year. A consolidated marks sheet is not sufficient as a standalone.

From European countries where English is presented as a subject and an acceptable level is achieved.

Minimum score of 6.5* with no less than 6.0 in any component.
*Please note, we can only accept Academic IELTS (or equivalent TOEFL/Duolingo). General IELTS will not be accepted.

The minimum score of 110 with no less than 100 in any component. An interview may also be required in conjunction with this test for certain programmes.
Results in examinations other than those listed above may also be accepted as meeting our English language requirements.
If students do not meet the English language requirements above, there are a range of short-term English language programmes offered at MIC.
