Youth Work and Social Education (MA) (ETS Endorsed)

Program Available at Carmarthen Campus

Overall, the programme offers students the opportunity to engage with topics which are central to the lives of children and young people today, and which are of concern to many adults. For example, a significant proportion of children and young people in the United Kingdom (around 10 per cent) are experiencing a diagnosable mental health condition.

This is a relatively new phenomenon and this programme is a response to that and other important issues impacting on the lives of children and young people.  The programme intends to offer students the ability to gather, generate and to work with robust, up to date information to help influence policy development and practice for children and young people in difficult times.

The programme team believe that an approach to working with these issues in a positive way impacts positively upon the health and well-being of children and young people, the theory suggests that positive approaches to well-being are contagious. The programme brings together a diverse range of expertise in community education, counselling and formal education.

This interdisciplinary approach to developing the programme will bring rich rewards for students who will be exposed to different perspectives on Children’s Rights and Health and Well-being in the widest sense. The programme will be available through the medium of Welsh and English, the programme will also offer students the opportunity for tutorials through the Welsh language.
