Master of Science Innovative Technology Engineering

The Masters in Innovative Technology Engineering degree aims to produce graduates with strong skills in critical thinking and with the creative attitude necessary to instigate future developments in the field of Engineering Technology. The student will attain an academic mastery in their specialization field while developing a broad knowledge of other related fields and how these converge.

The student will embark on a program that will assess and analyze a number of emerging technologies and the developing potential for the convergence of these technologies. The course aims to prepare students for a rewarding career in industry or academic research. In addition, the course will facilitate for them the development of a set of personal and professional attributes that will allow them greater flexibility in the development of their own career options. The program is designed to develop the student’s knowledge and skills in strategies for innovation management, product design and development, and optimum routes to market. The student will also carry out post-graduate level research of industrial relevance in selected topic areas.

The Masters's degree requires the successful completion of twelve modules. The student must also complete an industrially aligned and relevant Research Dissertation”

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

International Students
International Students are advised to contact the WIT International Office before submitting an application via PAC. The International Office staff will give guidelines on how to apply and use PAC. The International also assists the Joint Programme Leaders and the Head of Department in their assessment of each International applicant’s educational qualifications and suitability for the program.

This includes a detailed review of all relevant documentation and in many cases interviews (e.g. via Skype).   Applicants whose first language is not English must submit evidence of competency in English.

Engineers Ireland
The MSc in Innovative Technology Engineering program is at NFQ Level 9 and has been designed to meet the accreditation standard of Engineers Ireland at the Chartered level. Candidates who enter the program with the relevant Level 8 qualification accredited by Engineers Ireland or recognized under the Washington Accord will have fully satisfied the education requirement for Chartered Engineer status on graduation with the MSc in Innovative Technology Engineering*.

However, it is important to note that those candidates (Irish and/or International) who enter via the RPL process or have a degree qualification that is not accredited by Engineers Ireland/Washington Accord will have to subsequently confirm with Engineers Ireland on a case-by-case basis if they have fully met the education requirement for Chartered Engineer.
